Office Furniture

A man is known by what he wears, and a man who runs a business is known by the way he furnishes his office. Office furniture, like clothing, is not just a thing of use. It can have beauty and soul. You may remember the office of Marlon Brando as the Godfather in the film of the same name. It is a dimly lit office in which he reclines on a weathered rust colored chair, stroking his cat, and speaking words that spell havoc to the disfavored. It’s an office, which exudes power and which has literally grown out of the man. There are companies with more money than is good for them in a hurry to scale the ladders of status that invest fortunes buying famous paintings. Perhaps they want you to know they are people of taste, not just bagfuls of money.

Let’s suppose you are setting up an office and need to furnish it within a month. Functionality, comfort and aesthetics are the things you need to keep in mind. Furniture is costly, and you will reap what you sow for years or decades. Remember, true aesthetics doesn’t show.

It’s not just a question of money since the expression “stinking rich” has some rationale behind it. More often than not, money is a badge of vulgarity. Furnishing an office needs intelligence, taste and human consideration. Take the example of a computer workstation. How many are the groans and invectives that have come out from their occupants at the end of the day. Human spines simply didn’t evolve to bend over a keyboard from morn to eve. So furnishers, have a heart, especially when it comes to chairs. Here is a thing where ergonomic design must supercede prettiness and even cost.

The arrangement of the workstations is another important thing. Is it an open office or a closed office? Do you want the people to be interacting or do you want them to be mum and bent over their papers or keyboards all day long. This depends on the kind of work as well as your own work ethic. There is always a golden mean between people being huddled close or being separated like stars in a constellation.

The first thing you need to do is to sit down and think real hard and form in your mind’s eye as detailed a picture of your office to be. Will it made to order or will you buy from the ready-made stuff available? Stitched clothing is not per se superior since companies are able to afford the best of designers as well as machines. By diligently exploring the market, you may be able to find excellent ready made stuff surpassing even your dream.
Storage spaces are a particularly tricky matter, since every office has very specific and different needs, and it may be to your advantage to get it made to specifications.

It is always best to avail professional advice in planning your office furniture. Expertise and professionalism, coupled with your own clear and vocal expression of your need will give your office the furniture it deserves and a stage for your business to grow on.
